Applying to Germany? Check Your Qualification Before Choosing a University

A university shortlist is useful only if your qualification and subject meet the admission rules. For international applicants considering Germany, uni-assist offers a Check: university admission tool that can provide an initial indication of how educational certificates relate to university study. It is a screening step; the institution’s programme requirements and application route still matter.

Check the qualification first

Open uni-assist’s admission check and work through the questions using your actual educational history. Record the result and any conditions it highlights. If you have completed higher education, uni-assist also explains the anabin database, which can help you understand how an institution or qualification is assessed.

Then inspect the specific programme

On each university’s official programme page, check the required degree or school certificate, subject prerequisites, language requirements, intake, documents and application deadline. Two master’s courses in the same field can ask for different prior coursework. Do not treat a general eligibility check as an admission decision.

Identify the correct application route

Some universities use uni-assist, while others specify a direct university process. The official programme page should tell you where to submit your application. Where uni-assist applies, its My assist portal lets applicants create, manage and track applications to participating universities.

Keep a decision sheet

For each programme, note: eligibility result, subject fit, language evidence, route, required documents, deadline and official link. Put an unknown item in a “confirm” column rather than guessing. This turns a broad search into a list of applications you can realistically complete.
