The Chevening Scholarship gives eligible Nepali professionals an opportunity to study a one-year taught master’s degree in the United Kingdom. Applications for the 2027–28 academic year are open. If you are considering applying, check your eligibility first: the work experience rule and the requirement to choose three eligible courses are easy to overlook.

The opportunity at a glance

  • Who it is for: Eligible Nepali citizens seeking a UK master’s degree
  • Study type: An eligible, full-time, UK-based taught master’s course
  • Courses to select: Three different eligible UK courses
  • Chevening application deadline: 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC
  • Important next step: Apply to your chosen universities separately

Check your eligibility before you start

For this application cycle, you must have completed your undergraduate degree by October 2024. You also need at least 2,800 hours of work experience gained after completing that degree, spread over a minimum of two years.

Eligible experience can include full-time or part-time work, volunteering, and paid or unpaid internships. Add up your actual weeks and hours carefully; the online application system uses these entries to calculate your total. Work completed before finishing your undergraduate degree does not count towards this requirement.

Applicants must also commit to returning to their country of award for at least two years after the scholarship ends. Review the full official eligibility rules, including restrictions relating to previous UK government scholarships and certain employment relationships, before applying.

Already have a master’s degree? That alone does not prevent you from applying for a second master’s through Chevening.

What does the scholarship cover?

A Chevening award includes university tuition fees, a monthly stipend for accommodation and living expenses, eligible economy travel, the visa application cost for the scholar, and specified arrival and departure allowances. The monthly stipend varies according to whether you study in or outside London and is subject to review. Check the award terms when planning your budget.

How to apply, step by step

1. Confirm your degree and work history. Write down when you completed your undergraduate degree. Then list each qualifying period of work after that date, including the weeks worked and average hours per week. Check that you meet both the 2,800-hour total and the minimum two-year period.

2. Shortlist three eligible courses. Use Chevening’s course guidance and check each university’s own page. Your three choices must meet Chevening’s course rules. Compare the course content, entry requirements and university application deadlines before making your selections.

3. Prepare specific examples. As you complete the application, use clear examples from your work and community experience. Explain what you did, what changed because of your actions, and how the proposed degree connects to the impact you hope to make in Nepal. Check Chevening’s current application guidance for the exact questions and requirements.

4. Submit the Chevening application. Apply through the link on the official Chevening Nepal page before 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. Keep your access code and submission confirmation. Avoid leaving the final review until the last hour.

5. Apply to universities separately. Listing a course in your Chevening form does not apply you to that university. Follow each university’s admissions process and deadlines. If your Chevening application progresses, you will need an unconditional offer from at least one of your listed courses by the deadline in Chevening’s application timeline.

A quick check before submission

  • Did you count only post-undergraduate work experience?
  • Were your 2,800 hours gained over at least two years?
  • Are all three courses eligible for Chevening?
  • Can you explain why each course supports your plans?
  • Have you checked the deadline in your own time zone?
  • Do you understand that university applications are separate?

For successful applicants in this cycle, Chevening’s timeline sets 8 July 2027 at 17:00 BST as the deadline to receive and submit at least one unconditional UK university offer. This is a later milestone; the scholarship application itself closes on 6 October 2026.
