Applying for graduate study at Stanford? Check the Knight-Hennessy Scholars eligibility rules, funding, two separate applications and the 6 October 2026 deadline.
Knight-Hennessy Scholars 2027: Stanford Funding and How to Apply
Deadline: 6 October 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time
Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) supports students pursuing graduate degrees at Stanford University. Applicants from Nepal can apply: the programme accepts applicants from all countries. Selection is competitive, and a KHS application alone does not secure admission to Stanford.
At a glance
- Study destination: Stanford University, United States
- Level: Eligible full-time graduate degrees
- Scholarship support: Up to three years of funding, depending on the degree
- KHS deadline: 6 October 2026, 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time
- Essential requirement: Submit two separate applications—one to KHS and one to the Stanford graduate programme you want to study
Who can apply?
You must apply to, or already be enrolled in, an eligible full-time Stanford graduate degree programme. For the 2027 KHS cohort, your first bachelor’s degree must have been earned in January 2020 or later. A different eligibility window applies to applicants who served in the military. Check the official eligibility page before preparing an application.
There is no citizenship restriction, so Nepali applicants are eligible to be considered. You must also meet the admission requirements of your chosen Stanford programme; these can include specific academic preparation, tests or additional documents.
What does the funding cover?
KHS funding can support tuition and associated fees, a stipend for living and academic expenses, and an annual travel allowance for an economy-class trip between Stanford and your home. A relocation stipend may also be available when you begin the programme. Support is provided for up to three years; the exact arrangement depends on the length and type of degree. Read the funding terms for your chosen programme before making a financial plan.
How to apply: a practical sequence
1. Choose a Stanford graduate programme. Start with the degree you want to pursue. Check its admission requirements, eligibility, required tests and application deadline on the programme’s official Stanford page.
2. Confirm KHS eligibility. Check your first bachelor’s degree date and the eligibility conditions on the KHS website. Do this before spending time on essays or gathering references.
3. Plan for both deadlines. The KHS application closes on 6 October 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Your Stanford degree application has its own deadline: for KHS applicants, it must be submitted by the earlier of the programme’s applicable KHS deadline or 1 December 2026. Some programme deadlines are earlier. Convert the time to your local time zone and aim to submit well ahead of the final day.
4. Prepare your application materials. KHS requests academic records, a résumé, recommendation letters and written responses, among other application components. Your chosen Stanford programme sets its own document and test requirements. Give recommenders enough time and review both application checklists separately.
5. Submit both applications. Complete the KHS application through its official portal and apply separately to your Stanford graduate programme. Keep confirmation emails and check both portals for any outstanding items.
Before you submit
The KHS application itself has no application fee, but your Stanford graduate programme may charge one. Check that your degree programme is eligible, that your first bachelor’s degree falls within the required window, and that both applications are complete. Missing the programme deadline can affect your KHS consideration even if you submitted the scholarship form on time.
